After 18 months of work, we’re truly proud to launch the website for Commercial Type, a new type foundry conceived by Paul Barnes and Christian Schwartz. We don’t like playing favorites with our kids, but this one is close to our hearts. Check it out and buy fonts! Thank you Brana, Christian, Abi, and Berton for all your hard work and Kai for your support.

To celebrate, we splurged on a really nice bottle of champagne. A new website launch tradition?

Who are we kidding, websites are never ever done. Photo by Chad.

James Gaddy wrote a nice little piece about the website we’ve been working on for Commercial Type In the October issue of Print. Sneak preview of the site below!

AIM weirdness

Is this IM spam? Or some weird experiment? Has the internet become a vampire that I’ve invited into my home?

If you’re in New York this Saturday (March 7th), you should stop by Capricious where Sam Sherman and I will be ‘in residence’ from 4-8pm using ffffound live as part of the IN REAL LIFE exhibition. There will also be a panel discussion and reception at 8pm. Please stop by if you can, it should be fun.

Participants from the exhibition IN REAL LIFE including Art Fag City, Club Internet, Ffffound, The Highlights, Humble Arts Foundation, Platform For Pedagogy, Private Circulation, UbuWeb, Why + Wherefore, and others will collectively discuss the concept of browser as exhibition space. Above: Kittens and Cats written by Michael Joseph with photographs by Hedda Walther. Published in 1936 by Whitman Publishing Company.

A few weeks ago my friend Peter gave me this old and fragile book he bought at a yard sale library sale in Ames, Iowa. Some of the pages have been ripped out, but there are 32 remaining black and white photographs of cats which are captioned with an imaginary inner-monologue.

“What was that noise?”
“This is my favorite corner.”

This is clearly the world’s first known LOLCat.
